Why I Chose the Catholic Faith

-Eugene Celli

Dear Friends,

Father Quinnan asked our OCIA class to reflect on why we chose the Catholic faith. For me, it was quite simple—I’m Italian, what other choice is there? (Just kidding!)

Let me share a little about my journey as a Catechumen and why I embraced the Catholic faith. It has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life.

There was a time when I felt lost, alone, and trapped in a self-destructive lifestyle that left me empty and unhappy. I longed for meaning and peace, but nothing filled the void in my heart. That’s when I discovered the Catholic faith, and my life changed forever.

Through this journey, I have found a love so profound and a hope so enduring that it has transformed how I see the world and myself. While I am still learning, each step draws me closer to God and His grace.

As a Catechumen, I’ve been embraced by a community that welcomes me with open arms. I’ve found people who pray with me, encourage me, and guide me as I grow in faith. I’ve experienced the beauty of the sacraments—the promise of baptism, the healing power of forgiveness, and the incredible mystery of the Eucharist. These moments remind me that God’s love is real and that I am never alone.

Most importantly, I’ve come to understand that I am deeply loved by God, even in my brokenness. The Catholic faith has taught me that His love knows no bounds, there is always hope, and through Christ, we can be made whole. This faith provides purpose for every day, strength in every struggle, and enduring joy no matter what life brings. The Catholic Church is a place of healing, hope, and belonging—a family that will walk with you every step of the way.

I am deeply grateful to my OCIA class for walking alongside me on this journey of faith. Your encouragement has helped light the path to my spiritual rebirth. Special thanks to John Smith and Deacon Phil Zimich—you have both been incredible role models, and your kindness and guidance mean the world to me.

Above all, my deepest and most heartfelt thanks go to the Quintero Family. Your unwavering support, love, and generosity have been a true blessing. You welcomed me with open arms and showed me the beauty of faith lived out through love and action. I owe so much of my journey to your example and will always hold you dear in my prayers and my heart.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. With your help and the grace of God, I’ve found a new beginning—one filled with hope, peace, and joy.

With love and understanding,

Eugene Celli
