Confirmation
Confirmation
Confirmation is the sacrament which gives us the Holy Spirit to root us more deeply in Jesus. It strengthens our bond with the Church and helps us bear witness to the Christian faith in words and deeds, message and service. CCC 1303, 1316) The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism. It is the sacrament of maturity and coming of age. Confirmation is administered by the Bishop of the diocese at the Church of Saint Luke every third year and by our pastor on Pentecost Weekend when the Bishop can not be present. Confirmation is administered through the laying-on of hands and anointing with the oil of Chrism. Each Confirmation candidate must have a sponsor aged 16 or older who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation themselves and be in good standing in their parish and in the Catholic Church. A sponsor needs their pastor’s permission to become a sponsor.
Confirmation preparation is a two year program of study at the Church of Saint Luke. Students must complete both a Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation year prior to receiving Confirmation in the late spring of their Confirmation year. Please contact the Director of Faith Formation for enrollment information at 570-421-9097 ext. 105, or by email at religiouseducation@churchofsaintluke.org.
