Confirmation is the sacrament which gives us the Holy Spirit to root us more deeply in Jesus. It strengthens our bond with the Church and helps us bear witness to the Christian faith in words and deeds, message and service. CCC 1303, 1316) The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism. It is the sacrament of maturity and coming of age. Confirmation is administered by the Bishop of the diocese and is achieved through the laying-on of hands and anointing with the oil of Chrism. Each Confirmation candidate must have a sponsor aged 16 or older who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation themselves and be in good standing in their parish and in the Catholic Church. A sponsor needs their pastor’s permission to become a sponsor.
