What are Ministries
Our mission is to serve the greater Stroudsburg area by bringing Christ, in Word and Sacrament, to a diverse community, while inviting and drawing all into the unity of Christ.
Our BS-er’s (Bulletin Stuffers) meet Thursday mornings at 9:00am to collate over 700 Sunday bulletins for The Church of Saint Luke. These ladies joyfully share their time and talent in service to the church. Although they gather primarily for the purpose of bulletin stuffing, they also are happy to assist in other office tasks such as folding pamphlets or making tags for our Christmas Giving Tree. If this ministry is something you might be interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
Our craft group meets every other Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. to share faith, fellowship and fun while they create treasures they are only too happy to share with others. The Crafters showcase their creations during our annual craft fair in the fall and at our summer festival in July. If you think you might be interested in joining our Crafters regardless of your level of talent or expertise, please contact the parish office AT 570-421-9097.
The soup kitchen at the Church of Saint Luke, serves the needs of Monroe County’s unsheltered and less fortunate with a hot meal every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Jacques Center. Bag lunches are offered during the month of July, when the Jacques Center is under preparations for the parish festival. If you would like to volunteer to assist with food preparation and service, please contact the parish office at 570-421-9097.
As members of the Body of Christ, we are called to give of our time and talents in service to the church. The Church of Saint Luke invites all parishioners to respond to that call through their involvement in liturgical ministries. Please call the church office for further information regarding serving in a liturgical ministry. 570-421-9097
Eucharistic Ministers are adult men and women who have been confirmed and desire to assist, with the utmost reverence and dignity, in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Masses. Eucharistic Minister training is provided before beginning to serve. If this ministry is something you might be interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
Lectors are teens and adults who desire to be readers of the Word during Mass. Lectors must be able to read well, clearly and with appropriate projection. Training is provided before beginning to serve. If this ministry is something you might be interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
Commentators are teens or adults who are responsible for announcing song, reading petitions and providing a transition at various points during the Mass. Commentators must be able to read well, clearly and with appropriate projection. Training is provided before beginning to serve. If this ministry is something you might be interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
Boys and girls in 2nd grade, who have received their First Communion, through 12th grade may become altar servers. Three servers are scheduled for each Mass on a month-by-month basis. Masses on Christmas, Holy Days of Obligation, and major holidays are scheduled on a volunteer basis to accommodate those who want to serve on those days and those that may be away from the parish on those days. All new servers are provided with a training session prior to beginning to serve. Please contact the parish office if your child is interested in becoming an altar server.
Youth Ministry is a special concern to our parish. Each week activities are offered to our grade school students as well as those in high school. Youth activities are open to all parish students. Please watch the listing of activities in our Youth Corner in the Bulletin. If this ministry is something you might be interested in joining, please contact the parish office.
Eucharist to Homebound
If you are homebound and would like to receive communion in your home, please contact the Parish Office at 421-9097.
Our parish ministry visits the Hospital on a regular basis. Communion is available almost daily at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono from Eucharistic Ministers. It is most helpful that a family member advise the parish office when you are going into any hospital. Anointing of the Sick is offered for all who wish to receive it.
